2009 HARVEST: A VERY POSITIVE OUTCOME

November 2009

What could we be still dreaming of? To call this vintage exceptional is not even enough, given that the term is so common. It is rather as unprecedented that we can remember this magnificent harvest.

What are then the reasons for all this euphoria? As in all natural productions, the meteorology is the key to success. So, the hot and dry conditions of September, even though they have dried up the rivers, have been very well adapted to the balance of the vine and the grapes after which they were looking.

GRAPE HARVEST: HAPPY ENDING FOR THE 2008 VINTAGE

October 2008

This year, grape-pickers had great luck! The harvest took place in the most favourable conditions thanks to the second part of September which was dry and cold, and to a mild and sunny October. This was exactly the needed weather to clear up all incertitude concerning the grape maturity, which was rather late this year.

Thus, everything went finally quite well for this 2008 harvest, during which every grape variety could ripe to its full maturity. The grape-harvest began on the 25th of September with the Riesling-Sylvaner and the Doral, carried on with our traditional grape varieties (Chasselas, Gamay) and other specialities, and ended up on the 27th of October with the Gamaret.

Concerning the quality, we are here in a very beautiful year both for the reds and the whites. The wines seem to be less rich than those from 2007, but very well-balanced, with a good aromatic maturity; and they seem to present more freshness and fruit than those of the precedent years.

Regarding the volume, the harvested quantities are normal (average), similar to those of these last few years.

A noteworthy fact of this harvest is that this year is the last time the winegrowers of the Association Viticole d’Aubonne have pressed their grapes in the Cave d’Aubonne. In the future, they will take the product of their harvests to Morges.

Another thing to note as well is the elaboration of the sparkling wines, such as the Bleu Nuit, for the first time in Tolochenaz, which has at its disposal from this year on some vats for sparkling wines and a chain of bottling machines adapted to this type of products.

NEW CHAIN OF BOTTLING MACHINES IN UVAVINS

September 2008

After two years of planning, preparations, calculations and tests, the brand new chain of bottling machines in Tolochenaz is finally in function!

It must be said that it was no simple matter to replace the 21-years-old chain: we have suddenly jumped from systems with mechanical carriages to the adjustable computer-aided management of these same carriages. This was an essential evolution in order to still adequately satisfy the always-increasing expectations and demands of the consumers, as much on the level of the quality of the products as on that of their presentation.

QUALITY

The quality of the wine filtration and that of the packaging have been raised to the best level, so as to obtain a milder and more respectful treatment of the product in perfect conditions of cleanness (automation of the machines’ rinsing and sterilising programs).

The new installations also allow a perfect presentation of the bottles, the labels and the packages, all well-protected when undergoing manipulations, thanks to the computer control.

POLYVALENCE

These last few years have been witnesses to the multiplication of the shapes given to the bottles. This phenomenon has been taken into consideration during the period of conception of the chain of bottling machines, so much so that the new installations are fully able to process the 44 different shapes of bottle now used in Uvavins!

As for the new labelling machine, it allows the use of self-adhesive labels, whose shapes and dimensions can be diversified infinitely. Here too, the matter is about following the actual tendency which destandardises the bottles and their graphic designs, especially when it comes to the top-grade wines.

Finally, a last novelty -but not the least one- is the capacity of bottling sparkling wines. It is so that for the first time this year, sparkling wines such as the Bleu Nuit will be elaborated and then bottled in Tolochenaz.
